It’s a beautiful Thursday morning and like I like to call it #TrendyThursday.
When you think of the word trend, you kind of think of fashion, in style etc, well it is partly true. Trends could however be applied to politics, culture, business even science. And now thanks to social media trends are now universally recognized as part of Twitter!
For about a month, a trending issue has been the sad case of over 300 girls abducted from their school in Chibok, Nigeria by a bunch of criminals whom I would not give the dignity of being named on this blog. We are still unsure of how many girls are exactly missing or how many escaped, but what we demand for is the Nigerian government to rescue the girls and bring them back home to their families.
A lot of people have taken to the streets and social media to demand for their release. We are also demanding that the government crush and exterminate these criminals as well as name, shame and prosecute their sponsors.
A trend has been the pictures of individuals holding boards with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls We are grateful for the awareness generated and the international community for their pressure on the Nigerian government, which if I may add took 3 weeks to acknowledge this terrible incident. Countless innocent citizens have lost their lives and we stand together to condemn the acts of violence and pray for the girls to be brought back home safe and sound.
Ibiene has been a part of the campaign to bring our girls home, in addition to constantly raising awareness for the Nyanya blast victims. She is a published author and poet and a genuinely lovely girl. To learn more about her work, pls follow her on twitter @iamibiene
My song for the day is from Michael Jackson and its entitled “The Lost Children”. It’s a dedication to our girls and hoping for their speedy safe return home.
